In Argentina, a 73-year-old man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for sexually abusing his three daughters. The court found him guilty of attempted sexual abuse, aggravated by his status as the victim's father and the commission of the crime against a minor, taking advantage of a pre-existing cohabitation situation. The abuse occurred both in their shared home and in a hotel room where they were staying. According to the eldest daughter, who reported the abuse to her mother, the assaults took place from 2018 to 2024. The key evidence in the case was the testimony of the victims given during a hearing in a special room (Cámara Gesell). The judges noted that the testimonies were firm and presented no significant contradictions, which coincides with what is clinically observed in victims of intrafamilial abuse. After sentencing, the court ordered that once the conviction is final, the man's genetic profile must be obtained and sent to the Genetic Data Bank, in accordance with Law No. 26,879. The couple, who had been married for nearly 20 years and had seven children, separated after the eldest daughter revealed the abuse to her mother. "The pattern: silence, fear, and disclosure only in adolescence, coincides with what is usually observed clinically in victims of intrafamilial abuse," concluded Judge Gustavo Valle.
